A Minor Nonsense

I was never very good at English.

Instead of a girl, I would say she’s a bitch,

which some people don’t appreciate.

The differences in prescriptive and descriptive

grammar never meant much to me.

In school, they teach you not to write

how people talk. They’d say things like:

“Don’t say it’s big; call it colossal,” and

“You can’t say fuck in an essay.”

My mother tried to teach me to respect women,

but MTV had other ideas.

Real world depictions of Jersey shores

create a situation in which

women are less than respectable.

Things have changed since 1982.
