Four-Play

At the top of the swirling slide,

in the tiny metal tower,

I practiced swapping spit

with a little black girl.

Back then, we didn’t know about cooties.

All we knew was what we saw on TV—

I just happened to have HBO.

While the other kids

played hide and seek,

we played show and feel.

The teacher found us lip locked,

each with a hand in the other’s

shorts. We just

wanted to be more

grown up. She didn’t even

let us sit together after that.
